WORKSHOP
THE GUIDONIAN HAND

Holy Trinity Church, Rotherhithe

The Guidonian Hand was one of the primary methods of teaching music from 1200 - 1650. Learn how to read and use it, and how it can help us better understand music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Early Baroque.

This workshop is open to all, whether you are a professional singer, sing for fun, or simply want to observe.

Musica Antica perform the last tableaux of Jean-Phillipe Rameau's Les Indes Galantes. Set in an idyllic, pre-colonial North America, and pitting fickle French and Spanish explorers against a Native American vying for the hand of an American Princess, it poses the question: who is the savage?
